Isolated on 139 acres of pristine natural beauty and located at the headwaters of four large rivers, between Blue Mountain and the Beaver Valley, Silver Springs Retreat has shifted its focus and now offers natural health and wellness retreat programs.
On July 13th from 11 to 4 p.m., Silver Springs hosted a Community Health Festival which included keynote speaker Ann Barnes, co-founder of Mum’s Original Super Foods and author of two amazing and informative books, “Better Being” and “Eat Super, Be Super!”
Ann spoke about her switch from working 70-80 hours a week as a lawyer and hitting rock bottom to plant based living and sharing her knowledge and true passion through her company, Mum’s. “Plant based living isn’t about taking things out of your diet, but rather adding more in,” says Ann.
Ann also shared her ‘super food pyramid’ which included the top five super-foods for a healthier diet.
Here they are:
1. Gogi Berries – which contain 3 macro-nutrients and known as the ‘longevity’ berry with the most vitamin C content.
2. Raw Chocolate – 1-2 tbs. per day.
3. Chia Seeds – allows you to absorb necessary nutrients and acts as a substitute for eggs as a binder.
4. Hemp Seed – More efficiently used by the body than meat.
5. Coconut Sugar – with only 10% fructose.
The event also hosted a vendor marketplace with local health and wellness professionals who offered up fresh, organic produce, local honey, flax seed oil pressed on-site and much, much more!
Meanwhile in the heart of the property, guests enjoyed enlightening live music by the band Beckon, African drummers, dancing with instructors of Groove Dance group and a beer tent serving up wine and Creemore pints as the weather hit 25 degrees; a perfect accompaniment to any event! Not to forget to mention the complimentary and delicious plant-empowered food that was served for lunch.
The driving force of Silver Springs is the FreeSchools World Literacy – an incredible initiative that operates 80 schools in third-world countries with a focus on educating young girls. “Silver Springs has been, and will continue to be, a major source of financial support for FreeSchools,” says owner and founder, Sue Tennant.
Silver Springs’ retreats include: Educational workshops, inspiring guest speakers, incredible plant-based food, yoga and dance, meditation, nature-based activities, spa services, luxurious accommodation and more!
At Silver Springs you can also host your own health and wellness retreat, corporate event, wedding, family reunion and several other unique events.
The event was a big success, the weather, the energy, the speakers and especially, the overall emotion shared during Sue and Derrick Tennant’s spoken words about their switch from ‘corporate to wellness’ and their celebration of the endless possibilities of plant based foods and better living.
