According to Olga Lishansky, who was born in Russia, and started her musical education in Siberia at age six, “Music is the most comprehensive language of emotional expression. It can speak directly to our hearts and souls, our dreams and pains, our struggles and hopes. It can take us to the place we often forget about, in our daily routine…. yet, this place is the dearest place, the only thing that is truly ours…. and no one can take that from us. This is who we are.”
Olga graduated from Kiev’s Conservatory of Music in the Ukraine with a Master’s degree in classical piano performance when she was 24. In 1990 she left Russia immigrating first to Jerusalem, and then to Canada in 1992 where she and her husband and soon to be daughter, would be safe and at “peace” from the war that was going on in Israel. Olga completed the Certification for Life Coaching at Toronto’s Transformational Arts College in 2009 to help people discover who they truly are through music coaching.
Playing and teaching music is clearly her calling. As part of her piano instruction, she uses the Principles of Yoga to release body tension which improves the techniques of playing or singing. In addition, Olga works on developing self-confidence to improve performance skills, using various associations (sound or visual) to help students get to the ‘right’ place inside, as they play music.
When Olga returned to the performance world in 2007 with the successful “Concerto in the Key of Soul”: the name of her first concert in Thornbury, she found her life mission to inspire others to live from the heart. Teaching piano for the past 18 years, her concerts, workshops and presentations, hosting the radio show,“Symphony on the Beach” (97.7) for a year, teaching, life coaching, recording, and developing on-line programs, have all guided her on the road to success.
Olga is deeply influenced by Mozart, F. Chopin, and most recently, F. Schubert, even though she feels “our perception on life changes as we go through different experiences, so do our reflections on musical tastes”. She plays in the Amity Trio (www.amitytrio.ca) so check out any upcoming performances. “It is never too early or too late to explore your musical talents.” To inquire, contact Olga at www.olgalishansky.com .
